Worldwide, more than 70,000 patent applications are filed each month. As the number of utility patent application filings continues to grow at these astronomical rates, (Figure 2) it has become essential for businesses to understand the competitive landscapes surrounding patent activity. The most successful international enterprises thrive because of their ability to treat their intellectual property as both revenue producing and strategically leveragable business assets.
