Due to the growing necessity to increase global energy production through
renewable sources, Concentrated Solar Thermal (CST) technology has emerged
as a promising option for utility-scale energy generation. One of
the companies working to commercialize a viable technology solution is
Palo Alto, CA based Ausra, Inc. Having first developed its core
technology in the early 1990s in Australia, Ausra utilizes a Compact Linear
Fresnel Reflector system (CLFR) to convert solar radiation to thermal
energy for grid-scale energy applications.

Ausra's CLFR system uses a series of pivoting flat mirrors and to focus sunlight on a thermal energy receiver. The receiver contains water that is heated by the reflected solar radiation, and can be used to turn steam turbines for generating electricity. Their system can also include a long-term thermal energy storage component, allowing power to be generated at any time, not exclusively during sunny daytime hours.
This patent portfolio overview offers a patent-centric analysis of Ausra’s technological developments. The report, written by IP Checkups’ patent analysts, identifies Ausra’s patents, categorizes its portfolio into technology areas and provides interpreted summaries of the claims contained in each of Ausra’s fundamental patents and patent applications written in plain English. In addition, the report includes an overview of Ausra’s technology; its patent filing velocity, a geographic filing breakdown, and patent citation data. A complete list of all documents currently held in Ausra’s portfolio and searchable PDF copies of all of Ausra’s patents is also included.
IP Checkups’ Patent Portfolio Overviews were developed for investors, C-level executives and business development professionals as a means to quickly identify and characterize a company’s patent portfolio. These affordable reports provide a high level overview of the technology covered by a company’s patents and published patent applications and summarize the key concepts contained in the company’s patent claims. This patent portfolio overview is essential to understanding Ausra’s technology for investment, licensing, and competitive intelligence.
